Published By: Big Dog Publishing Directed By: Larry Temple & Dawn Abrahams Written By: L. Don Swartz

The laughs never end when Lottie and Bernice, two cantankerous grannies, crash the wedding reception of an unsuspecting bride and groom so they can eat free food  and steal rolls of toilet paper out of the restrooms.  Audiences will love the zany, unforgettable characters in this side splitting comedy.

Fire hall custodians in charge of the wedding reception find they are no match for these grumpy grannies who heckle wedding guests, criticize everything from the wedding cupcakes to the bridesmaids’ dresses, and complain about their numerous health maladies.

KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS HAS PURCHASE OF ST. FRANCIS BOYS HOME IN THE LEGISLATIVE WORKS…

Filed under: prairie musings, Ellsworth, Kansas, ECF — Peg Britton @ 4:57 pm

From: Deputy Warden Joe Fowler

Re: Secretary of Corrections Ray Roberts’ Announcement.
Secretary of Corrections, Ray Roberts, requested a meeting with the members of ECF’s Community Interaction Committee (CIC) on March 5, 2012. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the Department’s intention to purchase the St. Francis Boys Home for use as a 95-bed, minimum security satellite facility run by ECF.

Mr. Roberts provided various statistics regarding male facilities with the DOC as well as projections in coming years.  He explained that minimum facilities outside the secure confines of the prison are positIve at eliminating introduction of contraband, among other benefits.  Mr. Robers commented that the goal is not to obtain more minimum custody beds, but rather to gain more medium custody beds.

It is being viewed as a beneficial method of housing inmates as well as bringing more jobs to the Ellsworth area.  It is anticipated that this request will be acted upon during the current Legislative session which ends in July.

This unique comedy/murder mystery has six different endings! All hell breaks loose and the laughs fly when five outrageous contestants show up at Vinnie’s Belly Laugh Club for the final talent competition. A ventriloquist with moving lips, a foul-mouthed standup comedian, a baton twirling bimbo, the flamboyant owner of a lip synching poodle, a chanteuse with a questionable accent and a hypnotist with a twitch all fight to win the grand prize. When Vinnie turns up dead, they’re all suspects and the audience has the time of its life grilling them and fingering the murderer. A long running hit in Phoenix and San Diego, it is ideal for little theaters, cabarets and dinner theaters.

It is my sincere pleasure to announce Joe Fowler as the new Deputy Warden at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility effective January 2, 2012.

A native of Tennessee, Joe joined the Army upon graduating from high school in 1990. He began his career in corrections as a Correctional Officer at Fort Carson in 1995 and served as a Correctional Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, and Assistant Director of Operations at five different correctional facilities, including Guantanamo Bay.

In 2008, Joe joined the American Correctional Association and is a certified  Correctional Manager. He currently serves in the United States Army as Battalion Sergeant Major for the 40th Military Police Battalion in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he manages personnel working inside the United States Disciplinary Barracks, the Department of Defense’s only maximum security facility.

Joe earned his Bachelor of Psychology degree from Columbia College in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, in 2005 and a Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso in El Paso, Texas, in 2009.

Joe, his wife, Lisa, and their son, Joseph, will relocate to Ellsworth in December when Joe retires from the Army with 21 years of dedicated service to the United States of America.

Joe comes to us with a vast knowledge of corrections, leadership abilities, energy and a passion for corrections. I look forward to working with Deputy Warden Fowler and learning from his experiences.

TODAY IS THE 12TH ANNUAL RUNNING FOR THE SOUL FOR THE ECF SPIRITUAL LIFE CENTER…

Filed under: prairie musings, ECF — Peg Britton @ 8:19 am

There will be a lot of activity south of the Smoky Hill bridge in Ellsworth today as motorcyclists from far and wide gather for the 12th fundraiser for the Spiritual Life Center.  There will be all varieties of food off the barbecue grill for everyone to enjoy before the ride.  And it gives everyone an opportunity to mingle and mix and look at all the many styles of bikes various riders prefer.  On a good day there could be 200 to 300 riders wearing leathers and all their gear.

For those who ride, there are two different routes to choose from depending on how long you want to be on the road.  It’s 43 degrees right now and that may deter some less hardy riders but it could be much warmer by ride time.  Prizes are available to everyone who buys a chance to win. Take a little time and stop by the rec center and support the efforts of the Spiritual Life Team.

Thanks for tuning in…
